Small Businesses are Lagging Behind with their SEO Efforts

United Kingdom – Although the importance of maintaining a strong search engine optimization (SEO) strategy has been proven time and time again to help a web page rank high across various search engines, the reality of how many companies in the UK are practicing SEO techniques is alarming.
Research by Fasthosts shows that 41 percent of businesses do not have an SEO team or plan in place. One in four businesses believes that outsourcing SEO efforts is too costly while 11 percent claim their past efforts to optimize their sites have failed and have thrown in the towel forever more. In addition, 28 percent believe that they know enough about web logistics to be without an SEO campaign.
A significant percentage has claimed that they’ve never used the web to further their company’s success or to interact with customers. A shocking 41 percent of small businesses admit they do not even have an email contact where customers can reach them at. Let’s not even get started on the small percentage of businesses that bother to use Social Networking sites to advance their position on the web.
Unfortunately, small business feel overwhelmed with the amount of work it takes to keep a web site up and running. What they don’t realize is that if they don’t put in their dues, they will never prosper. The smaller firms especially have to do everything they can to stand out from their competitors. Building an SEO optimized web page and making themselves available through sites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace allow a company’s name to travel through the web at a much faster rate than simple word of mouth or newspaper advertising.
Ironically, it is not that expensive to keep your SEO efforts current. As long as the company provides fresh and relevant topics on their site regarding their product and make themselves easily accessible to customers, half the battle is already in the bag. Remember, no one can become an international success over night. You have to work hard to get the credibility that larger firms have already established.
