These days, if you don’t have a solid search engine optimization (SEO) campaign, you might as well throw your website into the gutter. Without the benefits that SEO brings to your business, your website will not rank very high across a web-search for your particular product or service. While your competitors are actively designing and redesigning their sites to measure up to current internet marketing standards, if you aren’t participating as well, you are falling far behind.

The main problem many businesses face when it comes to SEO is lack of time. More and more online businesses are outsourcing their SEO efforts to expert service providing agencies. Although some argue that this may be a costly and risky move, given the latest struggles with black hat SEO companies, others believe that leaving SEO in the hands of an expert will not only give you more time to work on your personal business endeavors, but will ensure that everything possible is being done to help you rank high across a search engine results page.

According to eConsultancy’s State of Search Marketing Report 2011, it has been estimated that just 44 per cent of SEO and 38 per cent of PPC campaigns are dealt with in-house. This represents a seven per cent drop for SEO and a nine per cent fall for PPC over the last year.

The figures are showing that more companies have turned to outsourcing SEO as a way to manage their internet marketing work. Two main reasons for outsourcing, as was discovered in the research report, were a lack of skill by businesses to manage their own SEO work as well as a lack of time.

If you don’t know what you are doing, leave it to the experts because it’s very easy to mess up an SEO campaign. You can easily overload your content with key words, when you may be thinking that it will help your site. You may also be focusing too much on one area of SEO and ignoring another. For these reasons, it’s much easier for you and better for your company’s performance, to allow someone who is skilled in internet marketing to handle the work for you so that all your corners are covered.

Some businesses that were surveyed also said that they lack the appropriate technology to handle their own SEO campaigns. Another benefit to outsourcing your internet marketing needs is that you get to learn from the experts just what you need in order to keep your SEO campaign rolling along smoothly. Your SEO service provider may teach you certain tricks of the trade so that you can eventually learn to manage your own campaign or just so that you are kept in the know of how your website is being modified and monitored.

SEO, paid search and social media are only getting more sophisticated and competitive, and given that they basically constitute the digital marketing mix for many companies, the notion that they should be handed off, at least partially, to experts is easy to buy into,” explained eConsultancy journalist Patricio Robles.

Regardless of whether you choose to outsource your SEO work or not, the general consensus is that one way or another, you need a solid internet marketing campaign in order to compete with the big dogs. If you want your business to boom and increase traffic to your site, you have to jump on the SEO bandwagon or suffer the consequences of disappearing among other insignificant websites during a search.
