Most of us have a guilty pleasure that we don’t always like to talk about. That one thing we do in the dead of night, when no one is watching us. Sometimes, we even take care of our little guilty pleasure at work, when our boss isn’t around or while the kids are in school. Sometimes, we even neglect all our responsibilities for the whole day just to cater to that guilty little pleasure that we are so fond about. For a few million of us, that guilty pleasure is the same. We all log onto our computer and turn to that one fateful site that always fulfills our needs and keeps us coming back for more. Yep, you guessed it, it’s Facebook.

I don’t know about you, but I can safely (though not proudly) say I have wasted away hours of my day on that crazy site, blogging, posting pictures and talking to people that I barely know but are dubbed my “friends.” Most of us have a Facebook account, even my parents who don’t know much about the modern age of computers chat and mess around on Facebook. Since we all go on it anyway, why not turn our favorite waste of time past time into something prosperous?

If you have a website and advertise a business or service on it, Facebook can help you achieve a greater amount of clients. While this may be confusing for you, I assure you, it’s not. Facebook or any other social networking site is the perfect tool to tackle onto your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) campaign.

You may know a thing or two about SEO already if you have a business website, but not everyone knows that social media has become the latest phenomenon to help websites achieve that precious rank among the top ten results in a search engine query.

In order to get the ball rolling with your Facebook SEO, create a page for your business. Make it sound as professional as possible, remember, this is not your personal fun page, but your work page. Under the ‘Info” and “About” sections, just write a little bit about your business. What you do, what you offer and things like that. Doesn’t have to be a ton of content, but just make sure it is SEO optimized (meaning make sure you include valuable keywords and phrases in there). You can also include backlinks to your site on your Facebook page, which acts like an added bonus to help you rank even higher on a search.

The great thing about Facebook is that you don’t have to be as formal as you might be on your official site, but still, keep it professional. No cursing, posting naughty pictures or anything that might get your mom to give you a hard time.

Then, get all your friends to “Like” your page. It all starts with one person who likes your page, then their friends will like it, their friends’ friends will like it and you get the idea. Pretty soon, you will be able to communicate with potential and current customers on Facebook, which is a lot easier than through a website or by phone or email. Your customers want to know that you are a real person and someone who is accessible. Put yourself out there and don’t be afraid to talk to your clients. After all, it isn’t called a social networking site for nothing.

Once you get the basics down, then you can start to post relevant articles related to your site, goods or services and can even offer coupons, talk about potential sales or address customer concerns. You want to give your customers a chance to voice their opinion about your product and Facebook is a great way to do that.

If you haven’t already done so by now, jump online and get yourself started on Facebook. The best thing about Facebook is that it’s free. Yes, totally free! You don’t have to pay anyone to create or manage your account because you can do it all yourself. Once you get started, you’ll see that your client base will begin to grow more than you could have ever imagined. And who knows, you might just make a new “Friend” or two.
