Adjusting your SEO efforts to Google’s new algorithm
Written by: Tanya Gonzalez
Now that Google has altered its algorithm, web masters are going to be seeing a lot of changes in the way that pages are ranked. Traditional methods of search engine optimization (SEO) will no longer apply and won’t get you the top spot you’ve been vying for. The new focus is more on quality than quantity, and this especially applies to links and key word usage. You may be thinking that your chances of increasing visibility for your website are now minimal, but let’s take a look at what you can do to create or modify your SEO campaign to make it more solid than ever.
First of all, SEO is reverting back to its original organic ways. Gone are the days of paying for links. Consider it money back in your pocket. Paying for links, product reviews, etc, will now most likely get you in trouble with Google, much the same way it did with J.C. Penney and Overstock.com, as opposed to helping you out. If you have too many links, Google will question the ethics of your SEO practices and may either lower your ranking or completely eliminate you from search results.
Instead, opt to earn your links. By maintaining creative and unique content on your website and monitoring your progress daily, you will undoubtedly become recognized by others in your line of service and this will help to draw attention to your site. You can also become a member of different online communities relating to your products and services and this will also help you get your brand name out there and increase visibility.
Also, take the time to create well thought out content. Saturating your pages with key words was never a good idea, but with the new algorithm change, Google doesn’t care for much repetition, even if your content makes sense. You need to take the time to create meaningful work that will spark not only your clients’ interests, but that of Google as well. The more unique and relevant your content is, the higher your site will rank. Stop focusing on key words as much and focus on the overall message and appeal of your work and you will see your hard work pay off when you rank among the top ten results of a search.
While adjusting to the new SEO criteria may take some time, just remember that in the online world, nothing is ever constant. Trends are always changing and technology is always improving. Just stick to your methods and tackle your SEO campaign with patience and tenacity. You will see that by keeping up with your website’s performance and staying as unique as possible, your efforts will pay off.
