Google Search engine was co-founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were students at Stanford University and the company was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 4, 1998. It is the most used search engine on the Web. Google receives several hundred million queries each day through its various services.
Google’s steadily increasing search share neared 70 percent in June in the United States, according to new figures released Tuesday by Hitwise. Its share increased from 68.29 percent in May to 69.17 percent in June, the analyst firm said. Over the same period, Yahoo dropped from 19.95 percent to 19.62 percent and Microsoft dropped from 5.89 percent to 5.46 percent. To add on, 99% of Google’s revenue is derived from its advertising programs. For the 2006 fiscal year, the company reported US$10.492 billion in total advertising revenues and only US$112 million in licensing and other revenues.
